Happy Father's Day to all the dads, grand dads, uncles, fill-in dads, brothers, etc.
I personally haven't cared for Father's day in about 3 years.
We lost my grandfather a little over 3 years ago to pancreatic cancer, and he was sort of the patriarch of our family.
As Ember said the other day, cancer does touch everyone.
But some forms are treatable, some are curable, some are not but early detection can help save or lengthen your life.
When Papaw was diagnosed, he was already in stage 4.
That was in April.
By September he had lost around 100 pounds, but he was refusing chemo or any sort of treatments.
He managed to hang on to walk his youngest daughter down the aisle that October.
Then he rapidly got worse and he died in December.
And all this started because of a stomach ache that he ignored for years.
Then my aunt finally hounded him enough to go.
But by the time it was found, it was too late.
And being the stubborn man that he was, he just wanted to be sewn back up and sent home.
Had it been caught early, he may still be here.
While not all forms are detectable, a lot are.
Please, if it runs in your family, get checked often.
Anytime something consistently bothers you, get checked.
If anything changes in your body, get checked.
Even if you think you are being a hypochondriac, get checked.
You could save your life.
Fashion For Life helps raise money for the American Cancer Society.
This organization helps with tests, support, all manners of things.
Which is why Ember and I jumped at the chance to blog for Fashion For Life.
Every little bit helps.
And we want to help.
